For Flat i no. 2, I've worked with Hedwig Houben on a book about her performance piece 'The Hand, the Eye, It and the Foot'.

Hedwig's publication ended up being composed of a new series of drawings that acts as an investigation into and re-enactment of the research behind her performance. Thus, it deals with all the material that lead to the form and content of Hedwig Houben's performance, in order to imagine alternative narratives. The book, which comes in an edition of 245, can well be seen as a compendium to this work.

Hedwig Houben (b. Boxtel, The Netherlands, 1983) lives and works in Brussels, Belgium. Houben studied at Higher Institute for Fine Arts Flanders (HISK), Ghent (2010-2011), Düsseldorf art academy (2006-07) and AKV St. Joost, Breda (2002-06).

Flat i publications generally concentrate on the creative process behind a single work, focusing on the material that gets translated and the actions that perform this translation rather than the work that these combined efforts result in.

Flat i publications aim to not just share this material and this process, but to find ways to reenact them, as a way of freeing these from being merely a means toward an end, to find ways to have the process exist on its own terms and speak for itself.

Flat i is a publishing project by Michiel Huijben.
